Title: The Curse of Tenth Grave
Author: Darynda Jones
Series: Charley Davidson #10
Genre: Adult, Paranormal, Mystery
Publication: June 28th 2016
Rating: 4 Crowns

Synopsis: As a Part-time PI and fulltime grim reaper, Charley Davidson has asked a lot of questions throughout her life: Why can I see dead people? Who is the hot supernatural entity following me? How do I get gum out of my sister’s hair before she wakes up? But, “How do I trap not one malevolent god, but three?” was never among them. Until now. And since those gods are on earth to kill her daughter, she has little choice but to track them down, trap them, and cast them from this dimension.

There’s just one problem. One of the three stole her heart a very long time ago. Can the Razer, a god of absolute death and destruction, change his omniscient spots, or will his allegiances lie with his brothers?

Those are just a few of the questions Charley must answer, and quick. Add to that a homeless girl running for her life, an innocent man who’s been charged with murder, and a pendant made from god glass that has the entire supernatural world in an uproar, and Charley has her hands full. If she can manage to take care of the whole world-destroying-gods thing, we’re saved. If not, well…

We are back with Charley Davidson and the gang! I was so excited to finally read this that it jumped to the beginning of my pile when I first received it. I just adore the world and characters that Darynda Jones created.

First and foremost, I am so happy to see the old Charley back. I missed her character a little in the previous book and it was a delight to read about the Charley that I fell in love with in the first book. Her sarcasm and humor are as entertaining as ever.

The Curse of Tenth Grave reminded me of the first few books in the series. It focuses more on the P.I. cases rather than Charley and Reyes’ fight against evil. We certainty have some personal scenes between the two that were precious, but the book focuses more on the individual cases rather than overall storyline about Satan and his plans for Beep (Yes, she will forever be known as Beep. I can’t even remember her real name lol).

As a result, the mystery is as good as ever. We have a few cases that satisfy our mystery cravings and spark our interest in some who-dun-it scenarios.

I wonder if we will get a spin-off about Beep and Osh. I think it would be fascinating to read about her fight against evil while growing up with Charley and Reyes as parents. I’m very curious about Beep’s characterization so I hope they write a spin-off.

There is one flaw in this book- not enough Reyes. We need more Reyes! We can never have too much of Reyes. To be fair, even if every scene included him, I still probably wouldn’t be satisfied. I just love reading about him so much.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the Charley Davidson series is one of my favorite series and it continues to impress me with each addition. I am beyond excited to read the next book. Thank the heavens, there is only a 6 month wait between installments. Countdown to  January has already begun!

Also, more Reyes please!

First grave

This whole grim reaper thing should have come with a manual.
Or a diagram of some kind.
A flow chart would have been nice.

Charley Davidson is a part-time private investigator and full-time grim reaper. Meaning, she sees dead people. Really. And it’s her job to convince them to “go into the light.” But when these very dead people have died under less than ideal circumstances (like murder), sometimes they want Charley to bring the bad guys to justice. Complicating matters are the intensely hot dreams she’s been having about an entity who has been following her all her life…and it turns out he might not be dead after all. In fact, he might be something else entirely. But what does he want with Charley? And why can’t she seem to resist him? And what does she have to lose by giving in?

With scorching-hot tension and high-octane humor, First Grave on the Right is your signpost to paranormal suspense of the highest order.
